Я рос в доме с мастерской, которая находилась в подвале. Там можно было строить и ремонтировать все, что угодно. Я чувствую, что в Швейцарии существует огромная культура «самодельничества». У нас есть инструменты для ремонта, пилы и кисти для покраски стен в нашей гостиной. И мы храним все в ящике – классическом металлическом ящике для инструментов. Просто откройте его и начните следующий проект. Вдохновленный этой средой обитания, я создал Bélier.

Having grown up in a household with a workshop in the basement, where you could build things and repair everything you wanted, I feel that Switzerland has a huge culture of DIY. We have tools to repair, saws to build and brushes to paint walls in our living room. And we store everything in a box – a classic metal toolbox. Just unfold it and start the next project. Inspired by this habitat I created a trestle.

„Drawing a delicate line with a precise pen – Bélier is a trestle inspired by two worlds“. While I live and work in the German part of Switzerland, I was educated in the country’s french part. Being totally different when it comes to creating new products, both worlds are influencing my practice. While the formal beauty of Bélier is based on simple lines and the way they connect, the trestle is highly technical in the way it horizontally nests and stacks into itself. The hot galvanized finish is a very common surface treatment for public furniture. While it makes Bélier last a lifetime, I also see so much beauty and simplicity in this finishing process.

Ich bin in einem Haushalt mit einer Werkstatt im Keller aufgewachsen, in der man alles Mögliche bauen und reparieren konnte, und habe ich das Gefühl, dass die Schweiz eine riesige Heimwerkerkultur hat. Wir haben Werkzeuge zum Reparieren, Sägen zum Bauen und Pinsel zum Streichen der Wohnzimmerwände. Und wir bewahren alles in einer Kiste auf – einem klassischen Werkzeugkasten aus Metall. Einfach aufklappen und mit dem nächsten Projekt beginnen. Inspiriert von diesem Lebensraum habe ich einen Tischbock entworfen.

Während ich in der Deutschschweiz lebe und arbeite, habe ich im französischen Teil des Landes meine Ausbildung gemacht. Die zwei Welten sind völlig unterschiedlich, wenn es darum geht, neue Produkte zu schaffen; in meiner Praxis beeinflussen mich jedoch beide. Während die formale Schönheit von Bélier auf einfachen Linien beruht und der Art, wie sie sich verbinden, ist der Bock sehr technisch, wie er sich horizontal in sich selbst verschachtelt und stapelt. Die feuerverzinkte Ausführung ist eine weit verbreitete Oberflächenbehandlung für Möbel im öffentlichen Raum. Sie macht Bélier ein Leben lang haltbar, aber ich sehe auch viel Schönheit und Einfachheit in diesem Veredelungsprozess.

Ayant grandi dans une maison avec un atelier au sous-sol où l’on pouvait construire et réparer tout ce que l’on voulait, je pense que la Suisse a une grande culture du bricolage. Nous avons des outils pour réparer, des scies pour construire et des pinceaux pour peindre les murs de notre salon. Et nous stockons tout dans une boîte à outils classique en métal qu’il suffit de déplier. Inspiré par cet habitat, j’ai créé un tréteau.

„Dessiner une ligne délicate avec un stylo précis – Bélier est un tréteau inspiré par deux mondes“. Alors que je vis et travaille en Suisse allemande, j’ai fait mes études en Romandie. Totalement différents lorsqu’il s’agit de créer de nouveaux produits, ces deux mondes influencent ma pratique. Alors que la beauté formelle de Bélier repose sur des lignes simples et son assemblage, le tréteau est très technique dans sa façon de s’emboîter horizontalement et de s’empiler sur lui-même. La finition galvanisée à chaud est un traitement de surface très courant pour le mobilier public. Si elle permet à Bélier de durer toute une vie, je vois aussi beaucoup de beauté et de simplicité dans ce procédé de finition.

Фриц Якоб Грэбер – швейцарский дизайнер. В своей студии в Цюрихе он разрабатывает объекты, мебель и освещение, а также пространства с четким акцентом на перспективы, симметрию и чувство цвета. Движимый своей силой воли и привычкой брать все в свои руки, он также выпускает небольшие издания со своими работами.

Будучи выпускником магистерской программы по предметному дизайну в ECAL в Лозанне и благодаря своей работе в различных студиях, включая студию Ханнеса Веттштейна, своему большому опыту в различных ремеслах, а также получению степени бакалавра в ZHdK, он способен подходить к проектам с разных точек зрения.

Его работы демонстрировались на международных ярмарках и выставках, таких как Salone del Mobile в Милане, в галереях Лондона или в OKRO в Швейцарии.

Помимо собственной работы он проектирует вещи вместе с hannes&fritz, соучредителем студии F&N и преподает в качестве приглашенного профессора на кафедре промышленного дизайна ZHdK в Цюрихе.

Fritz Jakob Gräber is a Swiss Designer. In his studio in Zurich he develops products, furniture and lighting as well as space with a clear focus on perspectives, (a-)symmetries and the sense of colours. Driven by his strong will of taking things into his own hands he also produces small editions as a way to establish his practice.

As a graduate from the Master’s program in Product Design at ECAL in Lausanne and due to his work in different Studios – including Studio Hannes Wettstein, his wide experience in different crafts as well as his BA studies at ZHdK, he is able to approach projects from different perspectives.

His work has been shown at international fairs and exhibitions such as Salone del Mobile in Milan, galleries in London or at OKRO in Switzerland.

Next to his own practice he designs things with hannes&fritz, co-founded Studio F&N and teaches as visiting professor at the department of Industrial Design at ZHdK in Zurich.
