Топографические карты дают нам возможность ориентирования в пространстве, позволяют нам путешествовать, не выходя из дома, а также помогают подготовиться к путешествиям. Тот, кто способен читать карты, может быстро и легко найти то, что нужно. Карты до сих пор можно найти в каждом швейцарском доме. Несмотря на прогрессирующую цифровизацию, они печатаются на бумаге и традиционно складываются.

Топографическая картина Швейцарии уникальна не только на бумаге – горы, долины и равнины украшают страну, а оледенения последнего ледникового периода создают оптимальные условия для 1500 озер. Некоторые отражают окружающие горы и облака в своей зеркально-гладкой воде. Они формируют открыточный образ Швейцарии и являются привлекательными для туристов. Помимо природных озер, в Швейцарии есть много водохранилищ для выработки гидроэлектроэнергии. Они представляют из себя дамбы, находящиеся в горной местности, долины специально затоплены для этих цели. Из-за этого топографический облик Швейцарии постоянно меняется. Это заставляет задуматься о том, как выглядела бы швейцарская топография без озер и какие формы рельефа скрываются под отражающей водной поверхностью.

lake | reflection – это исследование нас самих и нашего отношения к природе, людям и технологиям. Эта работа отражает то, как мы смотрим на вещи и как относимся к ним. Есть ли единственный способ смотреть на что-то, или это только один способ смотреть на что-то?

Topographic maps offer overview and orientation, they let us travel without leaving or helping us discover places as preparation before starting a journey. Those who are able to interpret the contents can quickly and reliably obtain an overview. Maps can still be found in every Swiss household. Despite progressive digitalization, they are printed out on paper and folded traditionally.

The topographical structure of Switzerland is not only unique on paper – mountains, valleys and plains adorn the country; and the glaciation of the last ice age created optimal conditions for about 1500 lakes. Some reflect the surrounded mountains and clouds in their mirror-smooth water surface. They shape the postcard image of Switzerland and are among the most popular destinations for tourists. In addition to natural lakes, Switzerland has many reservoirs for generating hydroelectric power. These are formed by dams in mountainous terrain, and valleys are flooded for the purpose. Due to this, the topographical image of Switzerland is changing permanently. This makes one reflect on what the Swiss topography would look like without lakes and what forms of terrain are hidden under the reflecting water surface.

lake | reflection is an examination of ourselves and our relationship to nature, people and technology. It poses the question of how we look at things and how we relate to them. Is there an only way to look at something, or is this way only one way to look at something?

Topografische Landkarten bieten Übersicht und Orientierung, lassen einen fremde Orte erkunden, ohne selber hinzureisen oder dienen als Vorbereitung vor dem Antritt einer Reise. Wer die Karteninhalte zu deuten vermag, kann sich schnell und zuverlässig eine Übersicht verschaffen. Landkarten sind auch heute noch in jedem Schweizer Haushalt zu finden. Sie werden trotz fortschreitender Digitalisierung noch immer analog auf Papier ausgedruckt und klassisch gefaltet.

Die topografische Struktur der Schweiz ist nicht nur auf Papier einzigartig – Gebirge, Täler und Ebenen zieren das Land und die Vergletscherung der letzten Eiszeit hat optimale Bedingungen für rund 1500 Seen geschaffen. Einige spiegeln die umliegenden Berge und Wolken in ihrer oft spiegelglatten Wasseroberfläche. Sie prägen das Postkartenimage der Schweiz und gehören zu den beliebtesten Ausflugszielen für Touristen aus dem In- und Ausland. Nebst den natürlichen Seen verfügt die Schweiz über viele Speicherseen zur Erzeugung von Wasserkraft. Diese wurden durch Talsperren im bergigen Gelände erzeugt und dafür Täler geflutet. Das topografische Bild wie auch das Postkartenimage der Schweiz veränderte sich dadurch nachhaltig. Dies lässt darüber sinnieren, wie die Schweizer Topografie ohne Seen aussehen würde und welche Geländeformen unter der Wasseroberfläche verborgen liegen.

Les cartes topographiques offrent une vue d’ensemble et une orientation, elles nous permettent de voyager sans partir ou nous aident à découvrir des lieux en préparation d’un voyage. Ceux qui sont capables d’en interpréter le contenu peuvent obtenir une vue d’ensemble rapide et fiable. De nos jours, on trouve encore des cartes dans tous les foyers suisses. Malgré la numérisation progressive, elles sont imprimées sur papier et pliées de manière traditionnelle.

La structure topographique de la Suisse n’est pas seulement unique sur le papier – avec ses montagnes, vallées et plaines ; la dernière glaciation a créé des conditions optimales pour environ 1500 lacs. Certains d’entre eux reflètent les montagnes et les nuages environnants dans leur surface d’eau lisse comme un miroir. Ils façonnent l’image de carte postale de la Suisse et comptent parmi les destinations les plus populaires auprès des touristes. En plus des lacs naturels, le pays possède de nombreux réservoirs pour la production d’énergie hydroélectrique. Ceux-ci sont formés par des barrages en terrain montagneux et les vallées sont inondées à cet effet. Ainsi l’image topographique de la Suisse se modifie en permanence. Cela fait réfléchir à ce que serait cette topographie sans lacs et aux formes de terrain qui se cachent sous la surface réfléchissante de l’eau.

La réflexion sur les lacs est une analyse de nous-mêmes et de notre relation avec la nature, l’homme et la technologie. Elle interpelle notre manière de regarder les choses. Existe-t-il une seule façon de le faire, ou est-ce que cette dernière est la seule manière de regarder quelque chose ?

Нона Вагнер, дочь керамистов, родилась в 1988 году. Она окончила среднюю школу в 2006 году и получила степень бакалавра искусств в области начального образования в 2009 году в Кройцлингене. Затем пять лет работала учительницей начальных классов. После принятия решения о смене деятельности Нора прошла подготовительный курс по изучению предметного дизайна в Люцернской школе искусства и дизайна в 2017 году. Там она вернулась к своим ремесленным корням. Нора стремится соединить традиционное мастерство с технологией, рассматривая машины как свои цифровые управляемые инструменты, которые в сочетании с ремеслом приобретают ценность. На протяжении всей учебы она работала координатором выставок и сопредседателем швейцарской торговой ярмарки. С 2017 года Нора помогает в программе бакалавриата по предметному дизайну в Люцернской школе искусства и дизайна. Более того, в 2019 году она начала учиться в магистратуре по дизайну.

Born in 1988, Nora Wagner grew up as daughter of ceramists. She graduated from grammar school in 2006 and completed her Bachelor of Art in Primary Education 2009 in Kreuzlingen. Then she worked as a primary teacher for five years. After the decision to reorientate, Nora attended a preparation course before studying Object Design at Lucerne School of Art and Design till 2017. There she found back to her handicraft roots. Nora is keen to connect traditional craftsmanship with technology, considering machines as her digitally controllable tools, which in combination with craftsmanship gain in value. Throughout her studies she worked as an exhibition coordinator and was co-chair of a Swiss trade fair. Since 2017 Nora is assisting the Bachelor Degree Programme in Object Design at Lucerne School of Art and Design. Moreover, she started 2019 her Master Degree Studies in Design.
