Сосредоточиться на швейцарском консерватизме меня заставила вышедшая из моды кружевная салфетка: чистая, без морщин, с безделушками или стоящими на ней послеобеденной чайной посудой, все „на своем месте“, очень по-швейцарски. Кружевная салфетка предназначена для того, чтобы добавить сдержанный акцент в гостиную, в то время как поверхность под не будет защищена.

Я хотел разрушить эту мелкобуржуазную атмосферу. Поэтому я перевел кружевной рисунок на современный резиновый гранулят, материал, неизвестный в этом контексте. Он защищает, служит нескользящей поверхностью, является декоративным. Но, в отличие от кружева, он яркий, красочный, большой, необычный, синтетический и непредсказуемый. Стимул для будущего.

With the intention of focusing on Swiss conservatism, I was inspired by the somewhat out-of-fashion lace quilt: clean, wrinkle-free, with knick-knacks or equipped with afternoon teaware, all ‚in its place‘, very Swiss. The lace blanket is intended to add a discreet accent to the living room while protecting the material underneath.

I wanted to break up this petit-bourgeois ambiance. I therefore translated the lace ceiling for the present day with rubber granulate, a material unknown in this context. This protects, serves as a non-slipping underlay and is decorative. But unlike lace, it is loud, colourful, large, unusual, striking, artificial and unpredictable. A stimulus for the future.

Mit der Absicht Schweizer Biederheit zu thematisieren liess ich mich von der etwas aus der Mode geratenen Spitzendecke inspirieren: sauber, faltenlos, mit Nippes oder mit Geschirr für den Nachmittagstee bestückt, alles ‚an seinem Platz‘, sehr schweizerisch. Die Spitzendecke soll in der guten Stube einen diskreten Akzent setzen und gleichzeitig das darunter liegende Material schützen.

Diese kleinbürgerliche Ambiance wollte ich aufbrechen. Ich übersetzte deshalb die Spitzendecke für die heutige Zeit mit dem in diesem Kontext unbekannten Material Gummigranulat. Dieses schützt, dient als rutschfeste Unterlage und ist dekorativ. Aber im Gegensatz zur Spitzendecke ist es laut, farbenfroh, gross, ungewöhnlich, auffallend, künstlich und unberechenbar. Eine Anregung für die Zukunft.

Dans l’intention de me concentrer sur le conservatisme suisse, j’ai été inspirée par le quilt en dentelle quelque peu démodé : propre, infroissable, avec des bibelots ou équipé d’ustensiles pour le thé de l’après-midi, le tout „à sa place“, très suisse. La couverture en dentelle est destinée à donner un accent discret au salon tout en protégeant le tissu qui se trouve en dessous.

Je voulais rompre avec cette ambiance petit-bourgeoise. J’ai donc adapté le fond de dentelle pour l’époque actuelle, avec du granulé de caoutchouc, un matériau inconnu dans ce contexte. Ce matériau protège, sert de sous-couche antidérapante et est décoratif. Mais contrairement à la dentelle, il est bruyant, coloré, grand, inhabituel, frappant, artificiel et imprévisible. Un stimulus pour l’avenir.

Валентина живет и работает в Цюрихе. Она училась в Париже (Академия Шарпантье) и Люцерне в Университете прикладных наук и искусств, где получила степень бакалавра в области предметного дизайна. После учебы она работала ассистентом на Цюрихской Биеннале дизайна 2019 года, а также участвовала в качестве экспонента вместе с Дейарой Коуто. Valentina lives and works in Zurich. She studied in Paris (Académie Charpentier) and Lucerne at the University of Applied Science and Arts, where she completed her Bachelor’s degree in object design. After her studies she worked as a project assistant for the Design Biennale Zurich 2019 and also contributed as an exhibitor together with Deiara Kouto. She currently is involved in various projects, such as a collaboration with the Theaterhaus Gessnerallee Zürich and the feminist association F96 of which she is a member, as well as the co-curation of the art space Atelier Bella.
